NHS Pay campaign – video messages for Rishi Sunak

Everyone has a story to tell of the hard work and dedication that has kept the NHS running during the pandemic. We want Chancellor Rishi Sunak to hear these stories ahead of the budget in March. We’re asking health workers to submit short videos about their experiences of working during coronavirus. We’ll include as many as possible in a hard-hitting film calling on the Chancellor to fund the pay rise all NHS staff deserve and share it far

Please encourage members in your branch to share their stories in a short video. Using a mobile or tablet it’s quick and easy, and there’s a step-by-step tool to help, including suggestions on what to say.

UNISON and other unions have raised concerns that some health staff are having difficulty accessing critical worker school places during this latest lockdown. Updated FAQs have been published which make clear that only one parent or carer needs to be a health worker and which advise staff on how to escalate the issue to NHSE/I if their school is not providing a place.

NHSE/I are also interested to hear about any instances of health staff experiencing difficulties accessing their usual before and/or after school provision.

Staff Council guidance on new pay progression system during COVID-19 (England)
From 1 April 2021 all NHS staff in England will be covered by the new pay progression system phased in through the three-year pay deal. However, the pandemic means parts of the system such as appraisals may not have been operating as planned.

UNISON has worked with other members of the Staff Council Executive to produce guidance for employers on how to ensure staff are not disadvantaged by the current circumstances and that pay steps gets processed on time.

A UNISON guide ‘Step by Step’ explains how the system works when fully operational, including tips for members on how to get the best out of the process. Branches are encouraged to share this with members as and when appropriate.
